V.C. Paralysis Surgery after Intubation

July 2015 |

After intubation during back surgery, my left vocal cord was damaged. For four years I tried ENT doctors, speech therapy and a music teacher. My voice became so bad that I could barely force out words, and people could understand me only with great difficulty. My life was severely restricted as a result (phone calls, shopping, going out, invitations = zero). Through my daughter’s music school we found voice specialist Dr. Wohlt. I got an appointment without any problem, flew to Berlin and, after a thorough examination (nothing like I had experienced with other specialists), was told that vocal cord augmentation could help me. One month later Dr. Wohlt operated on me in Berlin, and immediately after the surgery I was able to speak intelligibly again. Everything was prepared in an exemplary way and happened just as Dr. Wohlt had explained beforehand. I can warmly recommend Dr. Wohlt, especially because of the very personal way he cares for his patients. Even after surgery he monitored my voice by phone, which I greatly appreciated because I live in Stuttgart and did not have to fly to Berlin for every consultation. Ms. Kirchhoff’s care, both by phone and in person, also deserves special praise.
